At the FIT for Ukraine: Furniture Cluster presented the best practices of the Italian woodworking and furniture industry


The supply of birch plywood, which is in short supply in Italy, could be a new opportunity to start cooperation with Italian furniture makers.

Today, Ukraine is 15th on the list of suppliers of wood products to Italy.

This was announced at the FIT for Ukraine: Furniture Cluster forum, Paolo Fantoni, Vice President of the Italian Federation of Woodworking and Furniture Industries FederlegnoArredo, said.

Imports of wood from Ukraine include:

– softwood lumber -11%
– pallets – 24%
– veneer – 90%
– plywood (excluding bamboo) – 36%
– wooden flooring – 57%
– hardwood lumber of moderate hardness – 20%
– semi-finished wood products for construction – 242% 
– various panels – 45%

Italy is currently the second-largest producer and the first-largest furniture exporter in Europe. The woodworking and furniture industry accounts for 4.6% of industrial turnover and employs 14.9% of Italian companies. 2022 Italian furniture exports grew by 13.3% to almost €21 mln.

FederlegnoArredo unites more than 2,000 companies and includes 11 industry associations. The Federation offers businesses, among other things, access to qualified economic data (export trends, data on new markets, etc.). Through its associated company, FederlegnoArredo organizes the most significant international trade fair for the furniture sector, Salone Internazionale del Mobile. The exhibition hosts more than 300,000 trade operators every year.
