Creative Industries

Ukraine is home for many remarkable fashion designers, filmmakers and advertisers. As a result of their efforts, Ukraine shows up as a full-fledged member of the global creative industry.

Ukraine is among the top-25 countries in the category “Most awarded countries” in the Global Creativity Report 2019 by Cannes Lions. Such results were achieved due to the huge talent potential, high level of education, and the development of innovative technologies.

Creative industries show growth including the increase in the production of added-value products. According to the State Statistics Service the share of arts, sports, entertainment and recreation in Ukraine’s GDP in 2019 increased by 3.7%.

The most developed sub-sectors of the creative industries are advertising, IT sector, media, design, and handicraft. The fashion industry has been evolving and expanding for many years and has the potential for growth.

Filming

Ukraine, in general, has become a booming location for the global filming industry, as the country’s top-notch talent and affordable prices make it an attractive alternative to Hollywood. Ukraine’s multi-million filming industry is becoming a competitor within the region and can easily be on par with such traditional filming locations as Budapest and Prague.

Musicians and filmmakers are discovering Ukraine and are increasingly choosing to film their productions in the country. The recent successful HBO Chornobyl mini-series was shot in Ukraine, involving an award-winning Radioaktive Films, a leading film service production company in Ukraine for over two decades.

Ukraine is profitable due to the competitive cost of production, specialists and location. Combining a European appearance and a post-Soviet heritage, Ukraine is full of interesting locations for projects of any scale.

Dozens of world-famous musicians had their music videos shot in Kyiv in the past few years – MO, Miley Cyrus, Stormzy, Hurts, Nothing But Thieves, OrelSan, Calum Scott, Paloma Faith, Foals, Tame Impala, Mumford & Sons, Netta, Vanessa Paradis, Coldplay.

Ukrainian advertising productions are attractive to foreigners due to its cost-efficiency: the cost of filming in Ukraine is usually 4-5 times lower than in the developed European countries or the United States.

Kyiv is a new trend!

Western giants show a great interest in the Ukrainian capital: Apple, Google, Diesel, Mazda, BMW and Lacoste shoot their ads in the Ukrainian metropolis.

Fashion

The Ukrainian fashion industry is the latest commercial sector to experience an unprecedented boom as a result of the country’s resurgent economy. Recent historic events unleashed a wave of creative energy among a generation of young designers who drew inspiration from the surge of homegrown dignity and pride that emerged in the last few years.

In an industry constantly on the watch for the latest trends and social statements, the inspired collections of Ukrainian designers have now captured the attention of fashion elites and their clients around the globe. Numerous international celebrities have appeared in Ukrainian designer outfits in recent years, adding to the appeal of the country’s fashion industry. There are between 500 and 600 Ukrainian fashion designers having their own brand and engaging in the retail trade. Around one-third of them are regular participants in fashion weeks and industry events, both internationally and domestically.

A number of global fashion brands such as Hugo Boss, Marks & Spencer and Tommy Hilfiger already have production facilities in Ukraine and enjoy the benefits of cost-efficient quality manufacturing.
