5th German-Ukrainian Economic Forum was held in Berlin

On October 24, the 5th German-Ukrainian Economic Forum dedicated to the development of the economy and partnership of both сountries was held in Berlin.

The beginning of the forum featured official speeches by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal. During his speech, the Prime Minister drew attention to the prospects that are opened for European business in the process of implementation of the Recovery Plan of Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal said that now the Government of Ukraine is determined to maximize investment attraction.


Key highlights of his speech: 
🔸 Establishing cooperation with the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in the issue of military risk insurance, which has a successful experience in countries where terrorist actions were carried out. The agency allocated $30 mln to Ukraine for the implementation of a pilot project on investment insurance.
🔸 Privatization has been restored, and conditions are being created for quick investments, amendments to the law on “investments” have been submitted to the parliament, which will make it possible to attract more investors.

In his speech, Olaf Scholz noted that Germany, together with its partners, will support Ukraine as long as needed.
“This applies to wartime as well as reconstruction period. You can count on Germany and the EU and on other global partners of Ukraine,” the chancellor said.

During the panel discussion “Sustainable development in reconstruction – new materials and energy efficiency for the reconstruction of Ukraine” moderated by  UkraineInvest Executive Director Sergiy Tsivkach, the issues of how to overcome challenges and restore Ukraine after war were high on the agenda. 

The work of the forum was continued with the following panels:
▪️ German-Ukrainian energy partnership – deepening and expanding renewable energy sources
▪️ Logistics and infrastructure: water, railway, roads
▪️ Agriculture and food – restarting the Ukrainian agrarian economy
▪️ Cyber ​​security and digital solutions
