Ukraine has created 2022-2031 Gas Storage Development Plan

The National Commission for State Regulation in Sectors of Energy and Utilities has approved the Gas Storage Development Plan for 2022-2031 with a total financing amount of UAH 14.4 billion ($500 million).

UAH 8.2B of these funds will be invested in the construction of underground gas storage (UGS) facilities and UAH 4.9B in infrastructure facilities and in the reconstruction of UGS technological equipment. Also, a portion of the funds will be directed to several capital expenditures necessary for complete UGS operations: the purchase of specialized vehicles and machinery, as well as production and telecommunication equipment. This approach to the distribution of investments will ensure the development of the Ukrainian UGS network, guarantee its uninterrupted operation during pumping, gas storage and selection, the fulfillment of all obligations to service customers and, what is important, the safe heating seasons in the future.

Implementation of the investment program will continue and in 2022. This year, despite the war, Ukrtransgaz – the Storage System Operator of Ukraine – plans to invest UAH 500 million in UGS network. The funds will be used to implement strategic projects where the current conditions allow to do that. Currently, work on a number of facilities is already underway.
