Ukraine and the US to update the Agreement on Trade and Investment Cooperation, Ministry of Economy

10/11/22

According to the results of the meeting of the US Trade Representative and the representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the USA and Ukraine started a negotiation process regarding the renewal of the Trade and Investment Cooperation Agreement (TICA), concluded between the countries in 2008. The renewal of the trade agreement is especially important in the context of US economic support for Ukraine and in the context of post-war reconstruction. It is expected that as a result of the renewal of the agreement, Ukraine’s trade policy will become more favorable for American investments in projects for the recovery and rebuilding of Ukraine. https://www.kmu.gov.ua/news/ukrayina-ta-ssha-onovlyuyut-ugodu-pro-torgovelne-ta-investicijne-spivrobitnictvo European Parliament approved “transport visa-free” between the EU and Ukraine, Ministry of Infrastructure November 10, 2022 Deputies of the European Parliament ratified the Agreement on the carriage of freight by road. After the approval of the document by the European Parliament, the European Council must ratify the Agreement. The Agreement came into force even before the completion of the ratification procedures – after signature in Lyon in June 2022. It abolishes the need for Ukrainian carriers to obtain permits for bilateral and transit transportation through the EU. Thanks to this Agreement, Ukrainian drivers continue to use Ukrainian driver’s licenses and certificates of professional competence for driving in the EU, which are available, without the need to obtain an international driver’s license. The result of the “transport visa-free” implementation is an increase in goods turnover and in the number of road carriers crossing the state border of Ukraine in the direction of EU countries. The Agreement between the EU and Ukraine shall be valid for 1 year. Ukraine and the EU are currently working on extending this term for another year. Technical consultations are ongoing.
