Ukraine and Czech Republic have started cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment

On October 31, 2022, the governments of Ukraine and the Czech Republic signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment during a joint meeting.

The parties agreed on action plans for 2022-2024 regarding activities within the framework of this Memorandum. The cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment is expected to contribute to overcoming technical barriers in trade, supporting Ukrainian business and its entry into the European market.

Within the framework of the Memorandum, it is planned to perform an analysis of compliance with Ukrainian legislation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment with EU legislation. In addition, the Memorandum provides for:

• the exchange of rules necessary for the preparation of national standards, in accordance with the legislation of both states;

• the development of the monitoring mechanism of the appointed bodies for conformity assessment and recommendations regarding management processes for product testing in laboratories;

• the achievement of mutual recognition of the results of the conformity assessment of mutually supplied products, the development of an algorithm to ensure the ability of the designated conformity assessment bodies to carry out the entire set of product tests in accordance with the relevant technical regulations;

• the achievement of mutual recognition of the results of verification and calibration of measuring equipment and joint verification of standards.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s cooperation with the Czech Republic within the framework of the implementation of the EU Twinning technical assistance project “Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Economy in the field of national quality infrastructure”. The main goal of the project is to strengthen competitiveness and promote Ukraine’s integration into the EU internal market by improving the national quality infrastructure.
