Ukraine and the EU sign five agreements pawing the way for Ukraine to join the EU.
All five agreements are important elements of Ukraine’s biennial EU integration plan, as well as an extraordinary step of European solidarity with Ukraine in resistance to russia’s aggression.
1. Agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the EU Digital Europe Programme (2021-2027). This program envisages € 7.5 billion for project development in five areas: supercomputing, AI, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills, ensuring the wide use of digital technologies across the economy and society.
2. Agreement on the participation of Ukraine in the EU program for cooperation in the customs sector. From October 1, customs visa-free regime with the EU will come into force. After signing the Agreement, Ukraine will join the customs cooperation program with a budget of nearly € 1 billion. This will allow Ukraine to improve the qualifications of customs officers and use European electronic systems.
3. Agreement on the participation of Ukraine in the EU Fiscalis Programme on cooperation in the tax field.
Now the State Tax Service of Ukraine will be able to exchange information with EU colleagues and use modern European IT systems in the field of taxation.
4. Agreement on providing Ukraine with budgetary support worth € 500 million.
These funds will be used to provide housing for internally displaced people, as well as to support small farmers so that they can continue and develop their business.
5. Agreement on the redistribution of funds for grant funding thanks to which the European Commission increases grant budget for Ukraine by € 122 million.
This will make it possible to ensure the financing of priority projects for Ukraine and to speed up their disbursement due to the fact that grants can be provided directly to state authorities, local governments and public organizations.
