Why deep processing of agricultural products is necessary?

Ukraine is one of the world’s top 10 exporters of agricultural products. At the same time, the country has been losing tens of billions of dollars for decades due to low levels of processing: 80% of all agricultural exports are agricultural commodities. Experts estimate that partial processing of 30-50% of this volume could increase annual foreign exchange earnings to $30 billion and additional GDP growth to around 5%.

Even with a full-scale invasion, the share of agricultural exports would rise to 53% by 2022. This means that the market is working and trying to stabilise. That is why it needs support, and the government is actively working in this direction.

This was reported by Sergiy Tsivkach during the GRAIN UKRAINE CONFERENCE, where he moderated the panel “Investments in deep processing in Ukraine”.

Grain Ukraine is an international industry platform for dialogue between the largest representatives of the agricultural market, heads of Ukrainian agro-food companies, commercial and investment banks, and technological trendsetters in the agricultural sector.

Participants discussed the latest trends in the agricultural market, the development of sustainable business models and the introduction of agricultural technological innovations.
