US and Ukrainian companies will implement joint projects in nuclear energy, defence, and construction

Ways to attract investment from US companies to help rebuild Ukraine were discussed during a meeting between Yulia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, and Penny Pritzker, US Special Envoy for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery.

Representatives of US companies present at the meeting spoke about their current work in Ukraine and their plans for the future. For example, Westinghouse launched a project with Energoatom this spring to build two units at Khmelnytsky NPP using AR1000 technology. And Amentum is working on a joint venture with the Ukrainian defence industry. Meanwhile, construction company Clayco is considering participating in refurbishment projects in Ukraine.

They also discussed

  • launching the work of the Strategic Investment Council;
  • improving work on attracting and supporting investment;
  • necessary steps to reform public investment management;
  • creation of an institution for the preparation of high quality investment projects (Project Preparation Facility);
  • joint efforts to use frozen russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.

The main task of the Strategic Investment Council is to increase the efficiency of public investment and improve the quality of investment coordination with partners. In the autumn, the Council plans to approve a single portfolio of public investment projects for the coming year.
