The diaspora can be an effective way of attracting investment to Ukraine

Diaspora institutions play an important role in attracting investment for reconstruction. Their activities range from lobbying for Ukraine’s interests in other countries to establishing contacts with international companies and investors.

First and foremost, diaspora institutions have a unique opportunity to act as intermediaries between the Ukrainian government and foreign investors. They can ensure that investment processes are transparent and understandable, which is an important factor in attracting foreign capital. Diaspora members can provide advice and assistance to foreign investors by directing them to relevant sources of information, legal advice and other resources, as well as to investment promotion organisations such as UkraineInvest.

This was stated by Oleksandr Melnychenko, Acting Executive Director of UkraineInvest, during the 4th Diaspora Forum.

“Rebuilding Ukraine is the business of each and every one of us. Diaspora institutions have great potential to mobilise resources and knowledge for the benefit of our country. UkraineInvest is committed to ensuring that Ukraine’s reconstruction is based primarily on attracting private investment. We act on behalf of the Government of Ukraine, which is actively implementing key initiatives to promote economic growth and transform the country into an attractive investment destination. The UkraineInvest team provides comprehensive support, including reliable and up-to-date information, advice on doing business in Ukraine, identifying optimal investment opportunities, facilitating communication between investors and government agencies at all levels, and helping to resolve problems that investors may encounter,” said Oleksandr Melnychenko.

The Ukrainian diaspora ranges from 11 to over 30 million people in more than 100 countries. The diaspora actively invests its resources in Ukraine and contributes to the development of the economy.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘The Role of Diaspora Institutions in Attracting Investment for Ukraine’s Reconstruction’.

The event is organised by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
