COVID-19 UPDATE

Ukrainian Government keeps softening the quarantine restrictions

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine applies an adaptive lockdown.  Some of the restrictions can be lifted if the regions meet the epidemiological indicators. 
Since May 22, public transportation and hotels were able to start their work as well as religious (one person per 10 sq.m) and sports events (up to 50 people) were allowed. Starting from May 25, subway and kindergartens will resume their work. 


INFRASTRUCTURE

✈️ The construction of a new modern passenger terminal in Zaporizhzhia International Airport has been completed. 

The terminal’s capacity is 400 passengers per hour, however, the number might be increased to 500. The total area is about 12,000 sq.m. 


📍 Zaporizhzhia International Airport, a major transportation hub for eastern and south-eastern regions of Ukraine, has been steadily increasing passenger traffic year over year. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the airport increased its passenger flow by 38% in January-February 2020, compared to the same period the previous year.

Ukrainian seaports increased cargo freight by 12.5% during the first four months of 2020


The seaports of Ukraine continue increasing its handling capacities and raising the quality of its services. According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, Ukrainian seaports handled more than 55 million tonnes of cargo, a 12.5% increase compared to the same period in 2019. The bulk of the total cargo was grain (+5%) and ore (+30%). 


The leaders in cargo freight among the Ukrainian ports were:


⚓️ Pivdennyi with more than 20 million tonnes of cargo (+33.3%)
⚓️ Mykolaiv with 10 million tonnes
⚓️Chornomorsk and Odesa with more than 8 million tonnes
⚓️Mariupol and Olvia seaports keep steadily growing its cargo handling and showing 33% and 89% increase compared to the same period in 2019.


PRIVATIZATION

The State Property Fund has completed the preparation of the Dnipro Hotel for the privatization!


In the next few months the auction for the sale of PrJSC Dnipro Hotel with a 100% share for privatization is going to start. The lot has already elicited an increased preliminary interest from the investors.

FINANCE&BANKING

Ukraine attracted more than UAH 21 billion to the state budget through the government bond auction


On May 19, the Ministry of Finance sold three-month hryvnia securities with a 10.5% yield, six-month hryvnia securities at 10.7% and nine- and twelve-month hryvnia government bonds at 11% and 10.97% rate of return, respectively. 
The Ministry of Finance also sold $369 million dollar-denominated bonds with a 3.39% rate of return and seven month maturity period. As the investors are getting more confident, rates of return for short-term bonds have been reduced and the maturity periods have been extended.


ENERGY

The construction of the Zaporizhzhia wind farm continues!


EuroCape Ukraine is about to start the installation of the wind turbines. The first set of wind power equipment has been delivered to the site of future construction. Overall, the construction of the wind farm envisages the installation of the 167 wind turbines. UkraineInvest team is glad to see the progress in the assemblage of the wind park and was happy to assist and support EuroCape on different stages of this project. The Zaporizhzhia Wind Park is located in Melitopol and Priazovsk districts of Zaporizhzhia region and has been developed under the EuroCape New Energy. The park aims to reach a size of 500MW while the current first phase should reach the power of 98MW.

Commercial for Apple AirPods, filmed in Ukraine, won Gold Award at Shots Awards 2020


Apple AirPods commercial produced by Pulse Films, shooted in Kyiv, won in the category “Commercial of the year over 60 seconds” at Shots Awards 2020. The Ukrainian company Radoaktive Film was involved in the production and service part of the advertisement. Radioaktive Film is an award-winning Ukrainian production service company, which was working on the successful HBO mini-series “Chornobyl”. In the company’s portfolio there are numerous music video clips produced for foreign bands like MØ, Coldplay, Twenty One Pilots, DJ Shadow, Hurts, Years & Years, Tame Impala, Foals. Ukraine has become a booming location for the global filming industry, as the country’s top-notch talent and affordable prices make it an attractive alternative to the traditional filming spots elsewhere. 


AGRIBUSINESS

During the first 4 months of 2020, Ukraine exported honey worth in total $36,6 million, a 13% increase compared to 2019


During the first four months of 2020 Ukraine has exported 22,5 thousand tons of honey worth $36,6 million, reports the State Customs Service. In monetary terms the figure represents a 13% year-on-year increase. Overall, in 2019 Ukraine exported 55,000 tons worth $100 million. Ukraine is among the top-5 countries-exporters of natural honey in the global food market.
