EU plans to pay bulk of Ukraine’s reconstruction costs

The European Union is planning to pay the bulk of the costs of Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction. For this purpose, a Solidarity Trust Fund will be established (https://bloom.bg/3uUV1GF).

The Fund will focus on the country’s long-term needs and finance investments and reforms in agreement with Ukraine’s government. Such an instrument of assistance to Ukraine can be used, among other things, to create structures that will bring it closer to the EU and facilitate entry into the union. The aid figure is expected to reach hundreds of billions of euros within decades.

The first step will be a thorough financial needs assessment to be undertaken jointly with The World Bank. Much of the initial assistance will go towards rebuilding infrastructure and supporting the provision of public services. The European Commission is also considering expanding guarantees of assistance to companies, particularly from the agricultural sector.
