German HHLA completed its new project in Odesa seaport

One of the biggest German container operators, HHLA, has completed the new project in the Odesa Seaport worth  EUR 20 million. The company’s subsidiary Container Terminal Odesa (CTO) finished the construction of the 4rth complex within the new container terminal at the Quarantine Mole. The expansion of the terminal will increase the handling capacity by 300 thousand TEU.

Earlier this year the company announced the establishment of the Ukrainian Intermodal Company (UIC), which will develop container rail transportation, to and from the Odesa port. For this reason, CTO increases the terminal’s capacity to be able to handle container volumes.

“As an honorary representative of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in Odesa, I would like to note that the German company HHLA of the Hamburg port with a turnover of more than 1.25 billion euros, is a systemic and most powerful German investor in the maritime transport industry of Ukraine. Today, in the most difficult economic conditions, connected with an epidemiological quarantine situation, Hamburg not only did not stop its investments but is also doing everything possible to increase cargo turnover and attract new customers,” says Svetlana Yarovaya, Vice President for Social and Political Relations.

The HHLA container terminal in Odesa is now one of the largest in the Black Sea. The facility accounts for approximately 40 percent of Ukraine’s container throughput, handling 338,000 container units (TEU).
