This remarkable day reminds us of the thousand-year history of Ukrainian statehood, which begins with Kyivan Rus. This is where our coat of arms, national currency and Kyiv, which has become the political and cultural centre of Ukraine, originated.
The holiday is celebrated together with the Day of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine and the commemoration of Prince Volodymyr the Great, who adopted Christianity as the state religion in 988. This step was a civilisational choice for our country.
From now on, the holiday will be celebrated on 15 July in connection with the transition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the New Julian Calendar from 1 September 2023.
