Instead of exporting grain, we need to export flour. Ukraine should send smaller quantities of products abroad, but at a higher cost. This will be possible thanks to the development of the food processing sector. It is necessary to create products with added value.
Currently, the International Financial Corporation (IFC) is actively working on the harmonisation and digitalisation of legislation between the EU and Ukraine on the export of agricultural products.
It often happens that we buy frozen berries from Poland in the shops, but they are actually Ukrainian berries that Ukraine sold to the Poles. They were then frozen there and sold back to Ukraine. There is a good margin that we get from growing berries, but it can be even higher if we produce and freeze berries in Ukraine.
This was the point made by Olena Voloshyna, IFC – International Finance Corporation in Ukraine, at the forum “FIT for Ukraine: AGRICULTURAL PROCESSING”.
